On the first of December 2022, Netflix dropped the first look at the courtroom drama web series Trial By Fire. The web series is based on the Uphaar Cinema fire in 1997.
The featured star casts are Rajshri Despande and Abhay Deol as Neelam and Shekhar who lost their children in the incident. Along with Rajesh Talang, Ashish Vidyarthi, Anupam Kher, Ratna Pathak, Shilpa Shukla, and others in major roles.
The 1997 Uphaar Cinema incident is one of the worst tragedies in the world. The incident occurred on Friday 13th June 1997 during the screening of the movie Border. When the audience watches the movie, a fire breaks out in the theater.
The cause of the fire is an electric transformer catching fire. During the investigation, police discovered security violations. Authorities did not take any safety precautions and more.
Ansal brothers, owners of Uphar Cinema, are facing numerous lawsuits. The case is taken from the district court to the supreme court. The verdict by the Supreme Court is that Ansal Brothers have been fined 30 crore rupees and their prison term has been reduced as a result of their age.
Families of the victims have criticized this decision, and there are many unanswered questions relating to Indian law.
