The great Indian Family story revolves around Ved Vyas Tripathi (Vicky Kaushal) who hails from a pandit family of Mishra and their uncle (Manoj Pahwa) also lives with them. 

The story is set in Balrampur Uttar Pradesh. Ved Vyas Tripathi is a Hindu and devotee of God. One day a priest comes into the family and after seeing his kundli says, Ved Vyas is a Muslim by birth. The Mishra family thereafter closes the door for him after listening to this. The film then spiritually shifts to a message of how the identity of man is regarded by his religion.

Suddenly he faces an identity crisis and loses his family too when they come to know that Ved Vyas is a Muslim by birth. The film is also a reflection of society and how we take religion. The film is highly inspired by religion but nowhere do you feel degraded during the dialogue exchanges. 

Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Yashpal Sharma, Sadiya Siddiqui, and Yashpal Sharma are in the supporting roles in the film. This film lacks the top-notch fever of Bollywood film. Though the film is well-impacted but falls short when it comes to execution. The writing of the film impresses you for sure as the message clearly reaches the viewer that humanity is greater than any other religion. The film is a great family entertainer.
