Periodic movies have always played a dominant role in Indian cinema. Be it Padmavat, Gangubai Kathiyawadi, or Bajirao Mastani, each one has seen success at the box office and has set a benchmark for acting skills. Akshay Kumar’s latest release Samrat Prithviraj is now available on Prime Video.

Chandra Prakash directed movie coming straight from the Yash Raj production has fronted Akshay Kumar, Sonu Sood, and Manav Vij, in the lead and our latest crowned Miss World Manushi Chillar has also made her Bollywood debut through this one. The film is strictly based on a literary source which is Prithviraj Raso, a poem written by Chandra Bardai.

The Plot Of Movie Samrat Prithviraj

The movie starts with Mohammad Ghori invading the territory of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan(Akshay Kumar). Ghori had lurked for Delhi’s throne and the way to succeed Delhi would be through Ajmer’s invasion and this part of Rajasthan came under Samrat Prithviraj.

Samrat’s lesson and story of bravery is a world-famous note and everyone knows how brave a warrior he is. Sanyogita (Manushi chiller), daughter of Raja Jai Chand likes Prithviraj and considers him as her husband even without seeing him once, The Samrat on the other hand respects her love for him and accepts it.

Chandra Bardai (Sonu Sood) who is a friend of Prithviraj Chauhan also has a great skill of telling the future which brings a twist to all the scenarios. He had already foreseen that a single battle would never be enough to overpower Ghori and Samrat might lose his eyesight while the fight was over.

Detailed Review of  Samrat Prithviraj Movie

Review of  Samrat Prithviraj Movie

The story is historical hence it is vague to give credit to anyone. Based on Chandra Bardai’s epic poem the movie showcases the heroic and righteous element of the great king Prithviraj.  Dr. Chandra Prakash Dwivedi wrote the screenplay and dialogue and is the director of the movie as well. The screenplay is average but the story is kept engaging.

The reign of Chauhan has seen massive growth and sought huge respect for the Hindu culture and philosophy and as a result, those principles have also been portrayed in the film. The screenplay is a little slow-paced which is the reason that the thrill is not much exaggerated throughout and moreover looks like the pomp and show of the huge set.

There are certain scenes that deserve applause from the audience. When Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan drives away Sanyogita on the horse and marries her, the dominance of the kings at that time can be clearly depicted and the clapping of the audience justifies this scene as well. In the climax when Samrat killed Mohammad Ghori, the way the scene has been built up seems like a real running in front. However, there is also a contradictory opinion that Samrat died before Mohammed Ghori as per some textbooks and the scriptures found but this film shows the opposite.

Director Chandra Prakash Dwivedi

Chandra Prakash Dwivedi clearly had a scope to work more on dialogue because the dialogue coming from a king is always supposed to be heavy and well made but it’s not in this case.  Akshay Kumar is now in the race to give quick bucks rather than leaving an impression of his work. Manushi Chillar was gorgeous on-screen but acting-wise there definitely was scope for improvement.

Sonu Sood and Sanjay Dutt were great with the available screen space but Dwivedi has failed somewhere in the direction and Sanjay Leela Bhansali and SS Rajamouli are the epitome of creating historical films and were not even in the race for him to compete. Moreover, the movie felt tedious and that grace and charm were missing, and the struggle to and fro between the dialogues and appearing faithful can be clearly felt.
