Review On Kaithi- An Impeccable Action Thriller

Kaithi (Prisoner) is an Indian Tamil language action thriller originally released on 25th October 2019. The movie stars Karthi in its lead role and is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

The movie is about an ex-convict, Dilli, who attempts to meet his daughter for the first time after being released from prison. However, the ex-prisoners attempts to meet his daughter are ceased due to a drug raid planned by Inspector Bejoy. The 2hr 25mins film is produced by S.R. Prakash Babu and is currently being streamed on the ott platform SonyLIV from 1st June 2022.

Action Thriller Film Kaithi Plot

The movie Kaithi (translate:- Prisoner) is about an ex-convict, Dilli, who is on his way to meet his daughter, but gets interrupted and is employed by an injured police officer to protect a few cops and drive them to the hospital in exchange for meeting his daughter. A lot of gangsters in that place are after them and the viewers wonder whether Dilli can save the day or not.

The movie begins in an extremely economical setup. Inspector Bejoy (Narain), heading a group of cops who seized a record amount of drugs, cocaine to be more precise, which is hidden under the commissioner’s office, in a secret cell. But the mafia manages to sedate almost every police officer by spiking their drinks. Inspector Bejoy has to then employ Dilli to save the situation, a life-term prisoner who was just released from prison on parole and was hoping to finally meet his daughter. A few college students are found being stuck in the commissioner’s office accompanied by a line constable preventing the gangsters from breaking in and rescuing their boss.

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj gives the viewers all of these above-mentioned scenes in the first twenty minutes of the movie. A tense and skillfully shot action thriller. Kaithi is a pure action thriller without any embellishments, like the song or romantic scenes being included in the movie. The audience gets to see a whole two hours of pure action scenes but there’s hardly any exhaustion because of the impressive action choreography done by Abhinav.

Dilli faces multiple challenges of varying difficulties as he drives the cops to safety. The audience gets to see different kinds of stunts and as soon as these start to turn a bit monotonous there’s a magnificent gun battle.

The performances of the actors are solid and some characters are really interesting. Each one’s presence is very well justified. We have the unpredictable brother of the gangster (Arjun Das) who performs well, and George Maryan who plays the role of a fearless constable. He owns his scenes making a solid impact on the viewers’ eyes. Dheena, the unfortunate young lorry owner, adds some moments of liveliness in the movie through the performance.

Narain (Inspector Bejoy) the injured police officer successfully portrays the feeling of being misfortunate and vulnerable through his performance. Karthi (Dilli) pulls off the action scenes effortlessly and manages to move the audience in the emotional scenes with his incredible performance, especially in the scene where he narrates his past. Karthi is intense with his eyes, especially in the scene that involves his daughter and he breaks down.

The Cinematography done by Sathyan Sooryan deserves applause for the visuals and how the action scenes are lit up with the help of flashlights and truck lights only.

Sony Liv Action Thriller Tamil Movie Conclusion

There is no fault in the movie that catches the viewers’ eyes except for a few over-indulgent action scenes but it is what the audience signed up for so there is no place to complain about that. Kaithi is a very well-made movie that provides us with enough thrilling scenes and walking on a path that is usually not taken.

This movie is worth a shot if one is a fan of pure action thrillers with no frills. Kaithi is currently being streamed on the ott platform SonyLIV from the 1st of June 2022. It might make it to the most-streamed movie on the ott platform because of its amazing reviews.
