The Plot of Escaype Live Disney+Hotstar Web SeriesÂ
The plot of Escaype Live is quite simple. A new video-sharing application has come to India and started a 30 days competition for all its users. However, there’s a twist in this. Whoever participates in the competition and gets the most number of ‘diamonds’ (like a super like) on their videos in a whole month will win three crores rupees. These diamonds can be compensated for the actual money, with the application company taking its share from it.
The story presents a lot of content creators from varying backgrounds participating with one goal- to produce viral content and win the life-changing competition. The story shows the diversity in the world of these creators who are risking their health, sanity, and lives to emerge victorious in a competition.

The performances can be disappointing, but the characters are not intellectualized in the series, which can be a little engaging. Darkie or Dark Angel, played by Sumedh Mudgalkar, is played quite convincingly.
Plabita Borthakur delivers a brilliant performance as ‘Fetish Girl.’ Aadya Sharma as ‘Dancer Rani’ is fabulous, whereas Ritvik Sahore as ‘Aamcha Spider’ holds the audience’s attention with his courageous role. Siddharth Krishna plays the moral compass of the show.
He is a software engineer working as a content moderator for the company and is dismayed by its work. The inner conflict he goes through extracts more or less a good performance from him. Jaaved Jaaferi as Ravi Gupta is entirely reasonable to watch too.
Rohit Chandel as Rajkumar/Meena Kumari catches the audience’s attention as a transgender woman who lives in an underdeveloped city in Benares, and Shweta Tripathi Sharma plays the role of his friend. The staunch supporter is the only worthy character in ‘Escaype Live’.
There are other characters in this web series, and it gets tedious to maintain the interest throughout. Even though there are too many to follow, a little bit of patience might be of help.
The start of the series is firm. It manages to capture the flavor defined by the influencers’ videos without any background or fame. Anyone who has a smartphone can be a potential star. But as we proceed further into the series, we get to see some repetitive behavior from the participants.
The motivation that drives the contestants in Escaype Live is not convincing enough for the audience. The show is not futuristic enough for the audience to justify the suspension created in it. The series has an overstuffed plot, handling too many sensitive topics altogether, and hence it is getting trivialized.
Advert Nemlekar’s background music for this series is very well suited to the Thriller- theme given to the show. There are beautiful shots that capture the glory of Rajasthan and the tranquility of the Ganga of Benares, and the grunge of Mumbai slums is well captured as well.
The camerawork and editing by DOP Aseem Mishra and Chandan Arora are effortlessly efficient. Shyam Kaushal, the action director, captures the thrilling sequences executed in the movie skilfully.
Overall, the show is a praiseworthy attempt. The risk of social media being portrayed through a web series or a movie is not new to the audience. Although it lacks in the field of solid setup, the show is commendable for its passionate storytelling and building tension delivered through the background music and production values.
Escaype Live successfully captures the contrast between the world and highlights the risk of social media, desire, and measures of success.
Till now, only seven episodes have been released. The final two episodes will be aired on 27th May 2022 on the ott platform Disney+Hotstar.
