Review Of Hotstar TV Series Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi was released on 27th May on Disney+ Hotstar. The Galaxy of Star Wars is a huge one and Disney has taken an interest in exploring this vast universe like Mandalorian and Boba Fett. Mandalorian was a success and one of the best characters to come out of the Star Wars universe for years. Obi-Wan Kenoi tries to fill the void between these two original shows, does it succeed? Read the review for that one.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is playing the hits, it reminds the audience why they love Star Wars in the first place, to be very blunt it uses our love for star wars and the entire universe to make a place for itself, the first two episodes are very familiar as they play on similar beats which have been proven successful in the past.
Obi-Wan Kenoi starts with a much-needed recap of the events, the most important part is the tumultuous relationship between Obi-Wan Kenoi and Anakin Skywalker. Ten years later Obi-Wan Kenoi is living as Ben, he is a hermit we first met in A New Hope, he works in a desert meat factory, and whenever he has the time he spies on Luke Skywalker. The show succeeds early on by understanding what makes Star Wars “cool”, Obi-Wan Kenobi has some great villains who are capable of a lot of damage, especially the third sister who seems like she can do anything, her clear desire for power makes it more interesting.
One of the best parts of Obi-Wan Kenoi is that the universe in it is lived in and feels natural, it is not just putting on a show but is genuine at heart much like the classic star wars. The words are not painted on expensive CG, the stories and characters have been worked on and are not just there for another project. Much of this is because great attention has been paid to the small details, we might not always notice these details but they all come together into making this a heartfelt show.
Conclusion And Season 2 Update
Very little of what we see on screen is new of course, but the emphasis on loved characters and a lived-in universe of Star Wars makes Obi-Wan Kenoi work, after many that have failed, like the Book of Boba Fett which felt less purposeful and had no sense of direction, it was not an earnest attempt but Obi-Wan Kenoi brings hope that there might be more of such shows which explore the vast universe of Star Wars earnestly.
Out of the few Star war shows out there on the OTT Obi-Wan Kenobi is definitely worth watching, it is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
