If there is a redeeming grace in Monster, it is Peters in the titular role. Dahmer is a creepily unflappable ghoulish geek in the mold of Psycho’s Norman Bates. That holds true even after his newest prospective victim escapes and takes the cops back to Dahmer’s apartment in the first episode.

One of the victims recalls, petrified, how Dahmer tied his hands and threatened him with a knife to his throat. In the show, it can be seen that he’s escaping this too until one of the police officers spots the pictures of different disfigured corpses on a table beside his bed. The trailer included some dark scenes, like the one where Dahmer is cradling a dead body and another where he is making a sandwich out of human flesh.

The show has ten episodes and will focus mainly on his victims and nearby ones. Hopefully, this isn’t a trend, because efforts to bring these species to the screen are typically dull and gloomy. Monster is a solid and genuine crime drama that goes to great lengths to make the viewer’s insides lurch and their skin crawl.

The cinematography for the show has been done keeping the reality element in the show. The screenplay is brilliant in some intense sequences, whereas in other scenes it is good enough. The production crew has put in a collective effort to ensure that the series is a possibility.

The victims are frequently overlooked in true-crime shows because the perpetrator is more likely to intrigue and alarm viewers. Most of these shows name the victims, but there is little information about their life, whereas the perpetrator is given a detailed explanation to explain their intentions.
