Ghar Waapsi Web Series Review
After being fired from his job, Shekhar Dwivedi (Vishal Vashishtha) returns to his family in Indore. The first episode gets tedious for the audience because of its loose writing. Shekhar finds settling with his family while searching for another job difficult. But eventually, the scriptwriters get a grip on it.
Further, into the show, the episodes become more interesting, like a draft drawn from the scriptwriter and director’s lived experience. These drafts are funny, warm, and touching. The series is relatable to the audience as they can feel through scenes that they probably have done or felt the same things at some point in their lives, which makes them connect with the show more.
In Ghar Waapsi, Atul Srivastava plays the role of an understanding and non-dramatic father. He has no hard feelings about his son, Shekhar, moving away from the house as he wants him to achieve his dreams. The part where he hears about his younger son’s ambitions is endearing.
In the part where he tells his daughter to ignore her mother’s scolding because of going out with a boy, one realizes that parents and children do not always need to be on opposite teams.
Every actor delivers a convincing performance in this web series. Vishal Vashishtha as Shekhar accurately portrays a corporate employee’s frustration while trying to be the perfect elder brother. Anushka Kaushik’s tone is perfect for the younger sibling. Vibha Chibber’s natural performance sometimes reminds you of your mother.
Ajitesh Gupta, Shekhar’s best friend, is affectionate and warm, making one desire to have a friend like him. Scriptwriters Tatsat and Bharat, along with director Ruchir, has engraved the characters in a way that they progress without having anyone’s attention. The Dwiwedis are a family who never verbally expresses their love for each other, but you still get to feel the deep bond through their actions.
Shekhar’s problems and difficulties in coping with a new city, his parents, who missed him yet never allowed their emotions out as they wanted their son to flourish in his career, are quite relatable for many viewers.
Disney Hotstar’s latest web series, Ghar Waapsi, is a six-episode show that gives us a family of five that has a loving yet controlling mother, an understanding, free and easy father, and the eldest son who returns to Indore after losing his job in Bangalore, the younger brother who is impulsive in business decisions and the happy-go-lucky sister.
Overall it is a good attempt in this genre and a new, relatable watch for the audience. If one is interested in watching family dramas, then this drama is worth the shot. The web series is currently streamed on the ott platform Disney+ Hotstar from 22nd July 2022.
