The story is about Dr. Arora (Kumud Mishra), a sexologist who treats people who have sex-related issues. Whether he would be able to find the cure for the widely spread social stigma related to important issues like the sexual wellness of a person is the main question.

Review Of Dr. Arora Web Series

Created by Imtiaz Ali and set in the 90s, Dr. Arora is a series that deals with sex as a taboo. Dr. Arora, though unbalanced, is a welcoming judgment of many obstacles India has had to cross to be able to talk about sex, pleasure, and its many consequences. The main motive of the series is still relevant today, even if it was set in 1999.

The eight-episode series created by Imtiaz Ali portrays his signature style of presenting a heart-touching love story of Dr. Arora, which is set against the scene of his train journeys from Morena (Madhya Pradesh) to Sawai Madhopur (Rajasthan), Jhansi and Agra where he runs his clinic and pursues his passion of treating people. The setting of these small towns works great as the scenery and dusty old clinic add some character to the plot. The background music and songs add some gravity to the show.

The base of the story is interesting and relevant at the same time, which repeatedly underlines how sex is still taboo in India. It is done neatly without any use of cheap humor or double-meaning jokes.

Kumud Mishra plays Dr. Arora. He is a stunningly original person carrying the burden of his small wearying parts. There are flashbacks of Dr Arora’s encounter with erectile dysfunction that are warmly put like some nostalgic memories. His problems inspired him to run this clinic and help out less fortunate people.

Perhaps the effects of the series are that Dr Arora’s life, history, and personal reservations are parts of the plot that make the audience feel empathetic. But eventually, it gets stuck in a loop that loosens the pace and the conclusion of the love story between him and his ex-wife, Vaishali, becomes a massive disappointment.

Kumud Mishra, as Dr Arora, owns this show. He portrays his character’s vulnerability and boldness perfectly. His character alternates between being calm, following a routine life of seeing patients in different cities, and longing to catch sight of the love of his life.

And if he does, he relieves some bittersweet memories of them from the past that leaves his eyes sparkling. Vidya Malavade as Vaishali is amazing; Aditya Pandey and Siya Mahajan both play the young Dr Arora and Vaishali’s roles convincingly.

Raj Arjun’s role as Baba Firangi, who has a funny accent, is substantial. Gaurav Parajulin as Devender Thakur and his little fights with his neighbor Putul (Shruti Das) is interesting. Sandeepa Dhar and Ajitesh Gupta’s roles as Mithu Tomar and SP Tomar have adorable chemistry. The other characters play their roles quite efficiently, especially Dinkar Bagla, a proprietor of the inherited newspaper, a twisted character played perfectly by Vivek Mushran. His character being a complex one leaves the audience wondering why he did what he did.

The show Dr Arora, which Sajid Ali and Archit Kumar direct, does not spark any normal discussion but raises awareness on how sex is condemned to the point where sex-related problems or sexual wellness is still taboo in India. This change must be brought in the country, and this series succeeds to some point.

Overall, Dr Arora is a busy story with a complex and unbalanced plot, but it is worth the shot. The series has enough going for it, and the tense situations in the finale episode probably indicate another season. Dr. Arora is currently being streamed on the ott platform SonyLIV.
