Social Drama Movie Devi Plot and Story
The movie starts with a small room where we are shown women from various walks of life. There are women from different religions, ages, and practices. The lead is played by Kajol as Jyoti who is worshiping Hinduism. Some girls are watching TV, some are chattering, studying, playing cards and some are just sitting.
A teenage girl played by Yashaswini Dayama is switching ON the TV, the signal of the television glitches and they all look scared. The doorbell begins to ring again and again and they all look at each other.
Then, the discussion among all the women arises that this house is too small for so many women to fit in. Either some of them will have to go or let the guest stay outside. After a lot of quarrels and discussion, we get to know about how all these women are rape victims and are actually DEAD.
They all confess how they were raped and killed by cruel men outside. No conclusion is made on the lack of space concern and at last, Jyoti decides to let the outsider in. While going to open the door, she reminds everyone of how scared they all were when they came here.
When Jyoti gets the girl inside, everyone is left in shock, pain, and immense sadness. It was a five or six-year-old girl child, she hugs Savitri, the elder lady. The news reporter on the TV depicts the frightening condition of women rapes in India and the movie ends in a sad and impactful tone.
Large Barrel Select Short Film Devi Review
This short film by Priyanka Banerjee manages to show us the real picture of cruel monsters out there, in about twenty minutes, which is hard to be shown even in a three-hour movie. Such amazing direction, use of surroundings, character development, and acting has been achieved in this film that you’ll feel attached to the actors from the beginning only.
It’s a suspense drama short film and rightfully depicts the much-needed awareness of women’s safety. The presence of women from twenty years old to sixty years old, and women from different religions shows that a criminal mentality can prevail anywhere. No one is safe in this world full of cruel criminal mentality owners.
YouTube Short Film Devi Director and Star CastÂ
The direction and acting are on-point. Despite having many great actors like Kajol, Shruti Hassan, Neha Dhupia, etc in a single frame for just twenty minutes, every character is nicely written and effectively portrayed on screen.
The movie managed to get the Best Short Film Award in Filmfare 2021. The critics also appreciated the socially aware film to a great extent and even after two years of such a movie, there’s no improvement in the matters of women’s safety and empowerment in our great country.
The news channel reporter concludes the story with the adverse fact that ‘Every 22 minutes, a woman is raped in India’. All the characters are left in shock, despair, and pain after the arrival of the child and we are left with the cruel picture of the country drawn right on our screens.
